Seasoning the beret:
- Slide the pin out from the two metal extensions behind the crest.
- There should be two holes already cut into the felt of the beret. Position the two extensions behind the crest over the holes, and check if the whole crest fits onto the beret.
- This means that no part of the crest sticks out over the bottom edge of the beret.
- If the crest sticks out, cut another two holes higher up on the beret such that the whole crest fits into it.
- Now that you have confirmed the holes, use scissors to cut through them and into the cardboard backing.
- Then push the metal extensions behind the crest through both the holes on the beret felt and the holes in the cardboard backing.
- Slide the pin through the metal extensions so the crest does not fall out.
Arranging beret tails:
- Find the two black strings sticking out from the rim of your beret. These are used to tighten the beret in case it is too large, by pulling them outwards from the beret.
- Once you have confirmed your beret’s size, tie a reef knot with the strings.
- These tails should now be tucked into your beret at all times when you wear it.
- You will need to reduce the fluffiness of your beret by physically pulling the fluff out of the felt, until it feels less soft to the touch. You will have to repeat the process a few times over the entire beret.

Hair
French Braid:
- We typically use a french braid (as shown in the picture below) when braiding as it is easier to use on medium-length hair.
- Essentially, you start by pleating the hair normally from the top of the head and add more hair with each pleat as you work downwards.
